Trainmates often arrange cultural programmes for the inmates of AMHA (Association for the Mentally Handicapped), Thrissur. New Year celebrations, 2014, was conducted with them. Programmes and supportive activities along with voluntary work by the members, are arranged for the development of AMHA.

Trainmates involve regularly with Sevasadanam, a home for the destitute in Thrissur, and has donated a second-hand books library to inculcate reading habits in the orphaned children living there. Several festivals have been celebrated in Sevasadanam as well.

The forum has also started group farming by the members, as an effort to preserve the traditional methods of farming, that is slowly disappearing from the fields of the ‘God’s Own Country’. A variety of crops like tapioca, plantain, koorkka (Chinese potato), yam etc. are cultivated and distributed among the members and the public.

Programmes are held in connection with Women Empowerment. Training classes for Fabric painting, Paneer Cake-making, and Chocolate making were held last year, with great success. Women from different places participated.

Pickles and banana chips are prepared seasonally, with the effort of all the members. The prepared pickles and chips are distributed in the club and sold to the public.

Tours to cultural, historical and scenic destinations are held often, to interact and bond with the families of the members.

Last year, on 11th and 12th of April, Trainmates organized a programme for Child-development, named ‘Changathikkoottam’. Classes were held for the mental development, moral values, behavioral aspects etc. There was a special lecture by a leading psychology professor, for teenagers.

A cultural exchange fair was held at Attappadi, Palakkad,on 24th January 2015 jointly with Attappadi farming society to interact with the tribals and share cultural activities.

Fathers’ Day was celebrated on 16th June 2013, in the Government Old-age home at Ramavarmapuram. Sri Jayaraj Warriar , the famous caricaturist and actor was the Chief guest. A birdhouse was donated to reduce the monotony of the lives of the elderly inmates.

Vishu was celebrated on 14th April 2015 in the Kasthurba Gandhi Old-age home for Destitute Mothers. Padmasree Kalamandalam Gopi inaugurated the function and Dr. P Bhanumathy, Reciepient of ‘ Sthree Shakty Puraskar 2014 was honoured.

Trainmates held an eye-camp for the Kasthurba Gandhi Old-age Home for Destitute Mothers, where there was free eye-testing. Cataract surgery for thirteen elderly women was done by Dr Rani Menon, leading eye specialist of Thrissur on 22nd May 2016.

Trainmates, as part of their Onam celebrations, 2011, held an Afforestation Campaign to plant saplings and conducted seminars on the preservation of Mother Earth. Smt Supriya kumary,General Manager, PGCIL inaugurated the function and distributed saplings.

There was a lecture by Dr TT Paul, MNAMS (Chief Nephrologist, West fort Hospital) on ‘Kidney disease – the facts one should know’. There were classes on the Evils of Plastic as well.

The veteran traveller and member of Trainmates, Louis Master, was honoured, and his book: ‘Season Ticket’ was released. A documentary, ‘Life is Beautiful’ on his life was filmed by Sri Geo Sunny on the behalf of Trainmates.

As part of the Onam celebrations of 2016, Trainmates organized awareness classes on ‘Cancer- Prevention and Cure’ by Smt. Kanyakumari Ganga, of Indian Red Cross Society Cancer Hospital, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.

Yoga Classes were held by Sri Ramesh VR. The benefits of Yoga were discussed, and there were weekly training classes every Sunday. The course was successfully completed.

Classes on acupuncture were held by DR Bose TK, PhD. The Chinese medical treatment of acupuncture was conducted after testing, for those who require it.
